Zakat 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 2
Please pay your zakat if you have some due on you. Do not delay in paying whats due on you. It is a faraz, an obligatory duty.

Usually you can pay ur zakat anytime and in any month of year but majority of ppl i have seen, try to pay it off in Shaban and Ramadan months. While paying zakat money to some needy you are not supposed to tell him/her that that you are paying him zakat money. Thats one of the rules.

You can either pay cash to someone or buy him something he or his family needs, for example u can buy something as a dowry item for a poor gal who is about to marry and her parents cannot afford that item.

I have paid a part already while i was in Pak lately. Promised mom that I ll send some more money so she can buy food stuff/items for a poor Afghan Mahajir widow's family, that lives in our locality. So they can enjoy Ramadan with plenty of food for her kids, just like we all cherish. May Allah accept our charity and be happy with us...ameen

JazakAllah Brida. Good info. I didnt know that you are NOT supposed to tell the person you are paying zakaat to that thats what you are doing.

Okay cool...

Innamal Amal'u biniyaat..... Thats what applies in Zakat case too. Just make neeyat in heart that Allah plz accept it as zakat due on me. But do not tell it to the person as he may feel embarrassed accepting it.

There are many wisdoms and benefits behind the obligation of Zakat, of which some are mentioned here:

1) The foremost and primary is to distribute the wealth of the community among the poor, as mentioned in the famous Hadith of Mu’adh (Allah be pleased with him):

“If they obey you to do so, then inform them that Allah has made it Fard upon them to pay Zakat from their wealth. It is to be taken from the wealthy and given to the poor amongst them”. (Sahih al-Bukhari, No.1331)

2) Removing the love of wealth from one’s heart, a spiritual disease that could be detrimental to one’s Iman. Thus, it is a form of Tazkiya (self-purification).

3) Giving in the path of Allah acknowledging that whatever wealth one possesses is in reality the Almighty’s, and giving a monetary sacrifice for one’s lord.

4) Prevention of monopolies in society.

Well I think that zakat is paid by the head of the household.

Brida compiled some articles some time ago that can give you some information.

So if you are in too much debt and cant even pay the debt - is the Zakat maaf for that year or is it accumulating for the next time?

See Zakat is mandatory only for those who can afford paying it. Its mandatory to pay by the rich. The ppl who earn, saves, invests, do business and buy properties etc.

Secondly the condition is if the so and so amount remains in your ownership for whole one year, only then its 2.5% will be zakat-able.

No zakat doesnt accumulate for the next yr. Its not like Salah and Fasting which you must need to say and keep all fasts that you missed in past somehow.
